Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy on Friday expressed his gratitude and pleasure over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ukraine, thanking him for making the trip.

After meeting US Secretary of Defence Lloyd J Austin III, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, "Excellent meeting with my dear friend US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J Austin III. We reviewed the existing defence cooperation activities and discussed ways to deepen them further. The signing of Security of Supply Arrangements and the agreement for positioning of Indian officers at key US commands are path breaking developments."

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday stated that he has plans to visit India. He said, "Yes because when you begin a partnership, strategic partnership, and you begin some dialogue, I think that you don't need to lose time and do big pauses and that's why I think it will be good to meet together again. And if our meeting will be in India, I'll be happy to. I read a lot about your big and great country. It's very interesting. I will not have time to see your country. It's a pity because, during the war, I didn't have time to look and to see. But I think it's important any way to see your people. I think to understand the country is to understand people also. I don't think that I will have enough time but anyway, it's better to be in your country because to find the key to your country and your prime minister is to see your people. I need very much to find a key to your country because I very much need your country on our side. It's not about your historical choice. But who knows? Maybe your country can be the key to this diplomatic influence. That's why I'll be happy to come to India as soon as your government and prime minister are ready to see me."

On being asked about the conflict between Israel and Gaza, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, "It is a very sensitive moment. We cannot compare our war, the war of Russia against Ukraine, I wouldn't say that there a significant religious discrepancies between our countries. There is a lot of different religions and I guess that the same religions are available in Russia. So, it is not a war that has anything to do with religious discrepancies. This is a war of one person, that's it. In our case, we have a person who is gradually doing all the steps. This is the war of this man, he had this idea. We can't compare it with a war, with a crisis in the Middle East."

After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, "Yeah, we are ready (to engage with India and buy Indian products). I gave these all messages to your productions. As I said, we are ready to exchange. We are ready to buy. We are ready to produce. We are ready to open your companies here or we are ready to open our companies in India. So we are very ready for such dialogue and for such work."

On meeting PM Narendra Modi, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, "A very good meeting. This is a historic one. I am very thankful to the PM for coming. It's a good beginning with some practical steps. If he has ideas (on peace) we will be happy to speak about it. But we don't change our territories on any propositions. PM Modi wants peace more than Putin. The problem is that Putin doesn't want it. I don't know what did they speak about when they had a meeting. If during the official visit of PM, you attack the children in hospital. So, he had to recognise that he (Putin) doesn't respect India or doesn't control his Army. It means that he doesn't respect the Indian PM. So, for me, he is very clear. He is not so smart as his Russian TV shows."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said, "India ready to play active role in effort for peace." 

Responding over meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, "India will play its role. I think that India began to recognise that this is not just conflict, this is a real war of one man and his name is Putin against a whole country whose name is Ukraine. You are a big country. You have a big influence and you can stop Putin and halt his economy, and put him really in his place."

India and Ukraine signed four agreements after official talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The agreements would provide for cooperation in areas of agriculture, food industry, medicine, culture and humanitarian assistance, officials said. The Prime Minister began his historic visit to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv to hold talks with Zelenskyy. It is the first-ever visit to Ukraine by an Indian prime minister after Ukraine became independent in 1991, and his trip comes amid Kyiv's fresh military offensive in Russia's western Kursk region.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Instagram post with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi became his most-liked post on the social media platform within a few hours of being uploaded on Friday. Sources noted that Zelenskyy's most liked post had 7.8 lakh likes before his "Insta Collab" with Modi. His pictures with Modi received over 1 million likes within hours, they said, adding, that it shows the bump in the social media engagements most world leaders receive when the prime minister is part of it.

After interacting with PM Modi, one of the Ukrainian students studying the Hindi language, said, "This is a very important meeting for Ukraine and after this meeting, it will be proved that there is a good relationship between India and Ukraine. And we also hope that in future there will be more and more people who will learn the Hindi language."

On PM Modi's hug to President Putin in Moscow, EAM Dr S Jaishankar said, "In our part of the world when people meet people they are given hugs to embracing each other. It may not be part of your culture, it is part of our culture."

In the joint statement issued by India-Ukraine on the Visit of the Prime Minister of India to Ukraine, it has been mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook a visit to Ukraine on 23 August 2024, at the invitation of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Prime Minister Modi and President Zelenskyy reiterated their readiness for further cooperation in upholding principles of international law, including the UN Charter, such as respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. They agreed on the desirability of closer bilateral dialogue in this regard.

India-Ukraine issues a joint statement on the Visit of the Prime Minister of India to Ukraine. In the joint statement, the Indian side reiterated its principled position and focus on peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy, as a part of which, India has attended the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, in June 2024.

In Kyiv, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to being called on having neutral stances during the war, saying, "India was never neutral. We have a side and it has always been on the side of peace."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Kyiv, while holding bilateral talks with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, said, "When there were initial days of war you helped in the evacuation of Indian nationals and students. I express my gratitude to you for your help during this time of crisis. The world knows very well that during the war we played two roles. The first role was the humanitarian approach. I assure you that whatever the need may be from a humanitarian point of view, India will always stand with you and will be two steps ahead."

While holding bilateral talks with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kyiv said, "I thank you for your warm welcome to me and my delegation. Today is a very historic day for India and Ukraine relations. A PM of India has come to Ukraine for the first time which is in itself a historic event. Tomorrow is your national day and we congratulate you for this. We pray for peace."

EAM Dr S Jaishankar said, "We would urge Indian students to be cautious in Ukraine. We hope that this conflict will come to an end and life will return to normal."

On sanctions on Russia, EAM Dr S Jaishankar said, "I would say generally in India we do not impose sanctions on any country. It's not part of our political diplomatic history. We generally look at UN sanctions. Those are the sanctions that we respect."

On PM Narendra Modi's visit to Ukraine, EAM Dr S Jaishankar said, "PM Modi has invited Ukraine President Zelenskyy to visit India. We expect that as per his convenience President Zelenskyy will visit India."

On PM Narendra Modi's message on the Russia-Ukraine war, EAM Dr S Jaishankar said, "It is India's view that the two sides need to engage with each other to find a solution."

Briefing on PM Modi's visit to Ukraine, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said, "India handed over Bhishm Cube of Medical assistance to Ukraine today."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a delegation-level meeting at Mariinsky Palace in Kyiv and witnessed the exchange of MoUs between the two countries.
 

EAM Dr S Jaishankar responded over the ongoing PM Modi's visit to Ukraine, saying, "In the discussion, a significant part of it was devoted to our bilateral relations. There was a discussion about trade, economic issues, defence, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, education. There were a whole lot of issues. The leaders also tasked the Intergovernmental Commission, of which Minister Kuleba and I are the co-chairs, to specifically focus on rebuilding our trade and economic relations, which had gone down in recent times. And we certainly look forward to having an early meeting of that body, definitely by the end of this year."

External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S Jaishankar on Friday addressed media personnel and briefed them about the ongoing PM Modi's visit to Ukraine. EAM Jaishankar said, "As you know, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv this morning and we've just concluded his official engagements. This is a landmark visit. It's the first time that an Indian PM has visited Ukraine since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. PM arrived by a special train in the morning and he was received by the First Deputy Foreign Minister at the Kyiv railway station. He met the Indian community. His last engagement is going on right now, which is that he's meeting Ukrainian students who are studying Hindi."

The Ministry of External spokesperson later stated that PM Modi was deeply touched by the poignant exposition set up in memory of children who have lost their lives in the conflict. He expressed his sorrow at the tragic loss of young lives and as a mark of respect placed a toy in their memory.

 The Government of India has addressed the issue of the Guru Granth Sahib being seized by Qatari authorities with the counterparts in Doha,said the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement. The Indian Embassy in Qatar is in touch with Qatari government and initiating all possible actions. 

The MEA stated, "We have noted reports regarding the seizure of the Guru Granth Sahib by Qatari authorities and the Sikh community's demand for its release. The Government has already raised this issue with Qatar, and our embassy in Doha is keeping the Sikh community informed about the developments."

The statement further clarified, "It is important to note that two copies of the Guru Granth Sahib were taken by Qatari authorities from individuals or groups charged with operating a religious establishment without the approval of the Qatari government."
