On the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case, Actress Shabana Azmi says "There should be an outrage, it should not happen today, the outrage should have happened much earlier and it should not be selective...These incidents are very dangerous but if we take them selectively then we will not be able to reach the root and this is a very shameful thing because after the whole country came together for Nirbhaya, Justice Verma Committee made such a good protocol...I feel we need to completely remove the bias that is inside us and we do not think of women as mere commodities but think that women have equal rights..."

A member of the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum said they would not withdraw the agitation unless their demands, such as justice for the deceased postgraduate trainee of the RG Kar hospital, were met.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's recent warning that unrest in West Bengal could lead to broader chaos across multiple states has sparked a strong reaction from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. 

Banerjee had cautioned, “If you burn Bengal, then the North East, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and other states will also face the flames.”

In response, Sarma condemned Banerjee’s remarks, stating, “Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don’t show us red eyes. Don’t even try to burn India with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language.” Sarma's comments reflect a growing tension and a broader political debate over the handling of unrest and regional issues.

Amid uproar over the rape of a doctor in West Bengal, Union minister Annapurna Devi has said the situation of women in the state has been "deteriorating" and slammed the Mamata Banerjee government for failing to implement central government schemes such as fast track courts and emergency helplines to deal with crimes against women.

Calcutta High Court's Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmoy Bhattachayya have dismissed the petition seeking to declare the bandh call by BJP as illegal. He was debarred from moving any PIL before the court for giving false information about himself in a PIL.

West Bengal Junior Doctors Forum will hold a major rally in Kolkata on Wednesday, in wake of trainee-doctor’s rape and murder at a state-run RG Kar Hospital, reports said on Tuesday. 

Earlier, the junior doctor's forum decided to skip ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ protest march by the students against the TMC government, demanding Mamata Banerjee's resignation.

A 30-year-old medical student allegedly committed suicide at the Maulana Azad Medical College in Central Delhi, officials said on Tuesday.

The body of Amit Kumar was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room on Tuesday evening, they said.

Kumar was a first-year student of MD (Doctor of Medicine). He was under treatment for psychiatric disorder, a police officer said, adding that no suicide note has been found.

The family members of the deceased have been informed and further probe is underway, the officials said.
