On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated commitment to ensure a cleaner planet. Taking to Twitter, he shared a video of various places across the country, from hill-stations to waterfalls saying that we must be connected to nature. The video starts with clips of his recent visit to the Kedarnath Temple.
In the short video, PM Modi has said: "On this World Environment Day, we all must think the ways to make our planet clean green." He further said that planting saplings is not enough and urging the people to take care of it till it becomes a tree.
He further wrote, "Living in harmony with nature will lead to a better future".
President Ram Nath Kovind reaffirmed the commitment to a cleaner and sustainable planet. Saying that living in harmony with nature is a part of the Indian ethos, he said that the country is committed to addressing climate change and bequeathing a greener, eco-friendly habitat to the children.
On Tuesday, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar Tuesday launched #SelfieWithSapling campaign urging people to plant a sapling and a selfie with it in order to invite active public participation on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5. He said 'jan bhagidari' (people's participation) is integral to tackling environmental issues and it has to be a people's movement.
