New Delhi: With vessels in hand, implausible hope and liability to feed to family, the citizens of the national capital were seen running and queuing up near a water tanker as it arrived at Chanakyapuri's Vivekananda Camp amid scorching heat.
As the appalling video moved further it showed people rushing to the tanker as it stopped in a narrow lane. A huge crowd gathered near the tanker and passed on the water pipe to their known who climbed onto the tanker to fill the water fast and first.
The situation worsened so much that the Supreme Court had to intervene to manage the water crisis situation in the national capital. The top court came down heavily on the Delhi government for the prevalence of tanker mafia and for water wastage in the city. The court asked, “What measures have you taken against them?”
A bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Prasanna B Varale warned the AAP government that the court would ask the Delhi Police to take action in the matter if it can't deal with the tanker mafia who are solely blamed for causing the water crisis in the city.
Netizens Bash Kejriwal
Reacting to the videos showing the pain of Delhi residents, the netizens bashed the city government for failing to manage essential services for the people amid scorching heat.
A user on X targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the worst water crisis in the national capital and termed the city ‘London of India’ in a humorous way of mocking the government.
“Only people who have been in this kind of situation realise the hardships people go through. When water becomes your war cry, what else would you want to achieve in life?” the second user wrote in reply to the video.
A third user said, “People queueing for water in Chanakyapuri's Vivekananda Camp highlights the ongoing water crisis in Delhi. Is this what voters expected from AAP—freebies over essential services?”
