Govt undertakes Longitudinal Ageing Study to provide evidence on programs for elderly
Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said the Longitudinal Aging Study of India will provide an evidence base for national and state-level programs for elders

Launching dece of healthy ing (2020-2030) campaign on occasion of International Day of Older Persons, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said Longitudinal Aging Study of India (LASI) will provide an evidence base for national and state-level programs and policies dedicated to senior citizens.
"With well-designed and judicious investments, an ing population can help build-up human, social, ecomic and environmental capital. However, this would call for investing in all phases of life, fostering enabling societies, and creating flexible but vibrant for building a society for all s. For this to happen, formulation of policies and programmes of government, or any modifications rein to improve ir reach and delivery, need to be evidence-based," minister said.

In order to generate comprehensive data on social, ecomic and health well-being of elderly, Vardhan said that government has undertaken LASI, first nationwide study and world's largest study on seniors. Findings of LASI are being finalised by Ministry and will be released shortly after, he ded.

Health Minister also spoke on COVID-19 outbreak as a public health challenge for people across country and world. In view of higher risks faced by elderly during such times, government has recognised m as a vulnerable population category in this pandemic.
