Madhya Pradesh Woman Gives Birth on Handcart After Ambulance Arrives Late; Newborn Dies

A woman gave birth on a handcart after failing to get an ambulance in time, following which authorities issued show-cause notices to some officials.

Sidhi (MP): A 26-year-old woman in Madhya Pradesh 's Sidhi district gave birth on a handcart while being rushed to a hospital by her family after an ambulance failed to arrive in time. Following which authorities issued show-cause tices to some officials. baby was tragically born dead, with doctors later confirming that infant had died in womb nearly 24 hours earlier.

Urmila Rajak (26), who began experiencing labor pains on Friday night, was taken by her family on a handcart as y waited for an ambulance.

Upon finally reaching hospital, medical staff examined her, but it was too late to save child. 

"Staffers examined her once she reached hospital. child had died in womb 24 hours earlier. family lives in a narrow lane and had to come out on main road for ambulance, which arrived late. district administration has direct control on ambulance booking system, " Civil Surgeon Deeprani Israni told PTI.

Officials reported that ambulance arrived approximately 25 minutes after call was made to central dispatch center. 

Additional Collector Anshuman Raj disclosed that tices had been issued to health department officials, and a probe was underway to investigate delay.

This incident underscored persistent issues with ambulance service in rural areas, where difficult road access and coordination challenges can hinder timely medical assistance. 

local administration clarified that y lacked direct control over ambulance dispatch system but have initiated actions to review response and prevent future delays.
