A woman who was a part of an angry group, in Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday, beat up a government official with slippers. The incident took place over an argument regarding the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Gwalior. The women alleged that they had not been allocated houses properly under the PMAY.
Video shows displeasure of the women
In a video that news agency ANI shared on its official Twitter page, the group of women can be seen having a verbal spat with the officer while one woman in a green saree can be seen beating him with a slipper. The women alleged that the officer-in-charge did not allocate the houses under the scheme properly. While demanding justice, the women said that corrective measures to rectify the improper allocation of houses under the centre’s scheme should be done as soon as possible. The situation got out of hand when the official, paying no heed to the women, started to walk away. The woman in green did not let the situation go and ran after him before thrashing him with the slipper.

What is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched by the Government of India in order to boost the affordability of houses against an inflated real estate sector. The scheme that is under the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry earlier had the target of achieving its objective of “Housing for All” by 31 March 2022, by constructing 20 million houses across the nation. In August this year, however, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the government is on track with the target of achieving ‘Housing for All’ by 2020, two years prior to the earlier set deadline. For the scheme, nearly 54 lakh houses have been grounded for construction so far under the central scheme, while over 90 lakh houses have been sanctioned.
