In latest development, Mras High Court (MHC) on Friday asked atres in Tamil Nu to operate at 50% capacity, overriding previously issued government order that allowed cinema halls to operate at full capacity. AIMK-led Tamil Nu government issued an order on January 4 allowing atres to function at 100% capacity after film stars me requests for provision citing film releases during Pongal. However, Murai bench of Mras HC reversed government's decision and ordered film atres to function at 50% occupancy.

Earlier on January 4, government's order allowing atres to function at 50% capacity re, 'based on directives of Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Cinemas/atres/multiplexes were permitted to open from vember 10, 2020 with 50% of ir seating capacity by following Standard Operating Procedure in Government Order fifth re above. Based on decrease in COVID-19 cases day by day, atre Owners Association have represented to Government to increase seating capacity of Cinemas/atres/multiplexes. w, refore Government hereby permit to increase seating capacity of Cinemas/atres/ Multiplexes from existing 50% a to 100%.

Vijay, Simbu meet TN CM EPS
A day after Kollywood actor Vijay met Tamil Nu CM Edappi Palaniswami seeking 100% capacity in atres for his upcoming film 'Master', actor T Silambarasan also me a similar request for his upcoming venture Eeswaran. Both Master and Eeswaran are scheduled for release in atres during Pongal holidays - marking return of Kollywood films to big screens following shutdown on outbreak of coronavirus pandemic in March last year. As per sources, Silambarasan (Sibmu) is said to have met TN CM Palaniswami seeking full capacity for his upcoming film.

As per News Minute, 'Thalapathy' Vijay met TN CM EPS to put forth requests to make arrangements in atres for his upcoming release and sought full attendance to be allowed in atres during Pongal. meeting between two reportedly took place at CM's residence. At present, Tamil Nu government has permitted atres across state to function at 50% capacity keeping COVID-19 restrictions in mind.
