Maharashtra Farmer Suicides: State Government to transfer land titles of farmers to their widows

Maharashtra government has decided to transfer land titles of farmers who have committed suicide to ir widows with an aim to empower m. Revenue and Forest department issued a government resolution (GR) in this regard on Tuesday.
Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) h submitted a report to government recommending measures to empower farmers' widows.

GR said that w onwards, land title (including '7/12' extract or document) would be transferred in woman's name if her husband, being a farmer, commits suicide.

Such widows would also get priority in distribution of or assets and monetary assistance will be given for marri of ir daughters and for schooling of children.
In December last year, MSCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar h written a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fnavis and recommended about a dozen measures to empower farmers' widows.

Before that, commission h conducted camp-cum-seminars in Nagpur and Aurangab to understand socio-ecomic problems faced by widows of farmers.
It found that such women face problem while getting property rights transferred in ir names as often relatives of husband object to it.
