Maharashtra Govt to Issue Order Banning Sale of High Caffeine Energy Drinks Near Schools: Minister

Mumbai: The sale of energy drinks with high caffeine content will be banned within 500-metre radius of schools on Friday, said Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Minister Dharmarao Baba Atram, as per media reports.
The directive proposes to safeguard student health by regulating caffeine intake, according to media reports.

Replying to a question from independent legislator Satyajeet Tambe during the Question Hour, Atram stated that the FDA will soon execute this ban.
Highlighting the existing regulations on caffeine content, he noted that as per the existing rules, caffeine content between 145 ml and 300 ml is allowed in one litre of carbonated or non-carbonated drinks.

The order would be issued quickly to ensure the ban's swift enforcement around educational institution, Atram assured.
The measure intends to limit student access to high-caffeine energy drinks, which can cause health risks.

Council deputy chairperson Neelam Gorhe further directed Atram to make a list of drinks to be banned. She stated that circulate it with the FDA officials across the state for effective implementation of the order.
