Selfie Craze Turns Fatal, Teen Commits Suicide After School Objects to Use of Mobile Phone

Khargone: A Class 12 student jumped to death from Jam Gate, a historical site in Mhya Presh 's Khargone, after authorities of his school objected to his use of a mobile phone and attempts to selfies on its premises, police said.

17-year-old tribal student, Raj Osari, who studied in a government higher secondary school at Gulw in Mandleshwar area and stayed in a government-run hostel, ended his life before Thursday on despite attempts by his relatives and a guard to dissue him from taking extreme step, a police official said.

"Raj jumped from Jam Gate and was n found in a ditch. While he was trying to jump, his relatives and security guard posted at site asked him t to do so, but he did t listen to m and took extreme step," Khargone district Superintendent of Police Dharamraj Meena said.

He was rushed to a government hospital in Mandleshwar where doctors declared him de, official said, ding that he was a resident of Kak Khodri vill in Mandleshwar area.

deceased's uncle Jitendra Osari told police in a statement that hostel superintendent Prakash Girwal h called him to complain about Raj using mobile phones at school, police official said.

"School principal K C Saand h also objected to Raj taking selfies at school on Wednesday. But he threatened to commit suicide or run away from school," he said, principal n asked hostel superintendent to call Raj's family members and sort out matter.

But when his relatives, Krishna and his son Ganesh, came to meet him at school, Raj ran away. y all went looking for him, but could t find him. Raj came to school later and hostel superintendent immediately informed his relatives. y again reached hostel at 9.30 pm, but Raj escaped by scaling boundary wall of hostel, official said.

"He came to school again late at night and ran away from hostel after having breakfast on Thursday morning. principal asked staff to catch him but y were unable to do so," he said.

His mobile phone has also been recovered from spot. On basis of investigation conducted so far, re is a possibility that he has taken this step due to fear of being scolded by his family members, SP ded.

police are probing case thoroughly as re could be some or motive as well behind incident, he said.
