Kolhapur: Maharashtra Police arrested the contractor named in FIR, on Friday in connection with the collapse of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Malvan, Sindhudurg.
According to the police, Chetan Patil, a structural consultant named in the FIR related to the incident, was arrested from Kolhapur.
According to Sindhudurg Police, the arrest has been made from Kolhapur, local crime branch team of Maharashtra Police in Kohlapur arrested him.
Chetan will be brought to Sindhudurg today, said the police officials.
Statue was Unveiled by PM Modi
A 35-foot-tall statue of the 17th century Maratha empire founder, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rajkot fort in Sindhudurg on December 4 last year, collapsed on Monday afternoon.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar along with their party wrokers held massive protests across the state and hit out at the Eknath Shinde-led government over the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue, alleging that corruption has peaked under the Mahayuti dispensation.
