Mahatma Gandhi is coming back to life in the form of a lifelike 3D hologram which will feature at UNESCO Paris to mark the International Day of Non-Violence 2019. The 3D hologram is to address the audience to explain the philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi through the audio-visual medium. Mahatma Gandhi, the great propagator of the non-violent movement, led the resistance against the British in a campaign for India’s Independence.

The UNESCO event 

The 3D hologram is said to feature the lecture on ‘Ahimsa’. It is to be delivered by leading propagators of peace and non-violence, policymakers, UNESCO Member States, youth and the international community. The international day to celebrate non-violence is October 2, which is the date of birth of the Mahatma. The event is touted to take place on that date.

The 3D hologram & panel discussion

The 3D hologram is to speak for two to three minutes before setting the tone for the panel discussion. The panel discussion is said to indulge in a question-answer session. Through the holography, there will be discussions with reference to his writings. The topics that are to be covered are Satyagraha, Ahinsa, Kindness, critical inquiry, and education. The event has envisaged showcasing 5 segments of two to three minutes. These segments are to be played out as per a scripted act before the panel discussion.

UNESCO, a specialised agency of the United Nations is based in France. It aims to propagate international collaboration in the areas of education, sciences, and culture. The Distinguished Lectures Series was inaugurated in 2014. Since then, it has become a space for renowned academics, policymakers, and practitioners. The Distinguished Lectures Series come together to discuss and debate on topics related to education for peace, sustainable development, and global citizenship. UNESCO MGIEP is a category 1 research in education institute integral to UNESCO. It is supported largely by the MHRD.
