NEW DELHI: Two days after the Supreme Court delivered its remarks in the Adani-Hindenburg case, senior Supreme Court advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Mahesh Jethmalani on Thursday said the Indian National Congress (INC) leader Jairam Ramesh under the mentorship of Rahul Gandhi is acting like a contractual agent for promoting Chinese strategic interests, and sabotaging the Indian corporates that serve India’s geopolitical aims.

Calling Jairam Ramesh "a consummate liar", Jethmalani wrote on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter): the Congress party's recent attack on the Adani Group was not just an attack on “crony capitalism”, but “a campaign to undermine an Indian multinational” that had – on grounds of merit – "successfully thwarted China's global outreach by winning contracts against the Chinese bids for coal projects near Jaffna in Sri Lanka", besides outbidding the Xi Jinping-led country for the purchase of a port in Israel’s Haifa region.

Jethmalani mentioned that the ‘China Stone project’ in Australia's Galilee Basin, near Adani’s own coal project, was rendered “unviable” as the Indian multi-national “scaled down its rail-line construction plan” so that it would not serve the interests of the Chinese plant.

He further went on to challenge Ramesh, saying: “if I am wrong, [then] let’s have that MOU [out] in the public domain, Jairam”.
