Mahua Moitra asked to vacate govt bungalow days after expulsion from Lok Sabha
Days after being expelled from the Lok Sabha over allegations of ‘cash-for-query,’ TMC MP Mahua Moitra has been asked to vacate her government bungalow.
New Delhi: Days after being expelled from the primary membership of the Lok Sabha over allegations of ‘cash-for-query,’ Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra has been asked to vacate the government bungalow allotted to her by the Lok Sabha Housing Committee, said sources.
The Lok Sabha Housing panel intimidated the Urban and Housing Ministry to issue an order to the TMC leader, for vacating her government bungalow in the Lutyens' Delhi, said sources adding that the notice has been issued to the TMC leader.
Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha on December 8 after the House adopted the report of its Ethics Committee that held her guilty of accepting gifts and illegal gratification from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to further his interest. The TMC leader, however, vehemently denied the allegations.
She approached the Supreme Court following her expulsion as Lok Sabha MP. In the plea, she mentioned that the decision to expel her was "illegal".
The TMC leader, who represented Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal, said she was not given a chance to defend herself in the House when the ethics panel's report was taken up for debate.
She also said she was not able to cross-examine her estranged partner and Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who levelled the 'cash-for-query' allegations against her.
