Major Cyber Heist At Noida’s Nainital Bank, Rs 16.5 Crore Transferred to 89 Accounts in 5 Days

Noida: The Noida branch of Nainital Bank witnessed a major cyber heist after the cyber crooks wiped away over Rs 16.5 crore from the bank by hacking its servers in just 5 days. According to the reports, the bank’s servers were hacked and the amount was transferred to 89 accounts within a few minutes. It is being said that the cybercriminals entered the bank's Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) channel by hacking the manager's login credentials and took away Rs 16.5 crore between June 16 and June 20.
Following the incident, the bank's IT manager, Sumit Kumar Srivastava filed a complaint regarding the incident before the cyber crime police station in Noida.

In his complaint, IT manager Srivastava stated that the heist came to notice when the balance sheet was being tallied for June.
On June 17, the balance sheet was found short of Rs 3,60,94,020 during a regular audit of the RTGS, the complaint said, adding that the fraud was revealed when they could not match the balance sheet for several days.

"A case has been registered by the IT manager of the Nainital Bank. He said that about Rs 16.5 crore was withdrawn by hacking the manager's credentials and the bank's server. This happened between June 16 and June 20,” a senior police official stated, adding that the money was found transferred to 89 various bank accounts.
The senior police officials have formed a cyber police team to probe the fraud incident.
