Dehradun: A malfunctioned helicopter, while being transported from Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand, crashed after falling down, on the wee hours of Saturday.

The helicopter malfunctioned in Kedarnath Dham in June, which was being transported to Gauchar airstrip for repair work by an MI-17 Chopper of the Indian Army today morning.

During the transportation, the helicopter towed after loosing balance and crashed near Tharu Camp. The helicopter, which was being transported for repairs from Kedarnath, fell apart after its towing chain broke, as per reports.

Footage of the incident quickly surfaced on social media.

"The helicopter was being taken to Gauchar by hanging it from the Air Force's MI-17 chopper at around 7 am. As soon as it covered a little distance, the MI-17 started losing balance due to the weight of the helicopter and wind," Rudraprayag district tourism officer Rahul Chaubey said.

Sensing the danger, the pilot dropped the helicopter in the valley after seeing a vacant spot near the Tharu camp, he said. There was no passenger or luggage in the helicopter, he informed further.

In the May 24 emergency landing by the helicopter, all seven people on board, including pilgrims, escaped unhurt.

Fortunately, there are no reports of any casualties from the accident.
