Mamata Banerjee intervenes to pacify Congress and TMC MLAs

Mamata intervened to pacify the MLAs of the ruling TMC and the opposition Cong, who were at loggerheads over a comment by a state minister during Question Hour.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday intervened to pacify MLAs of ruling TMC and opposition Congress, who were at loggerhes over a comment by a state minister during Question Hour.

Unruly scenes were witnessed in House as Congress and TMC MLAs trooped to well and exchanged angry words during Question Hour after comment me by state Transport minister Suvendu hikari did t go down well with MLAs of grand old party.

When Congress MLA Pratima Rajak questioned hikari over alleged corruption in recruitment of drivers and conductors in state transport corporations, minister lost his cool and asked Congress MLA eir to prove her charge or apologise before House.

hikari, who is also TMC's observer for Murshidab district -a stronghold of Congress- said, in coming days, rest of Congress MLAs from Murshidab would join TMC and ne of Congress MLAs from district would be able to win 2021 assembly polls in state.

minister's comment angered Congress MLAs who said, hikari neir has authority to seek apology from any MLA r can he make such "unparliamentary comment that all Congress MLAs will join TMC in coming days".

Congress MLAs came down to well and protested against hikari's comment. Party MLA Kamalesh Chatterjee from Bharatpur assembly constituency in Murshidab district, ran towards hikari's seat to protest against his comment.

Following this, TMC MLAs also rushed to well and started shouting slogans against Congress MLAs.

Mamata Banerjee, who was n present in House, came down to well and pacified MLAs of both ruling party and Congress and controlled situation.

She rebuked her party MLAs for coming down to well and requested Congress MLAs to go back to ir seats.

Later, Speaker Biman Banerjee urged MLAs, including ministers, to be more cautious during Question Hour.
