Mamata Banerjee says 'Our slogan is 'No CAB, No NRC in West Bengal'
The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, during a rally in Jadavpur, accused the ruling BJP of passing the CAB without consultation in Parliament.

Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, during a rally in Javpur, accused ruling BJP of passing Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) without consultation in Parliament. She also reiterated that NRC and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will t be implemented in state. She also termed action by police in Jamia Millia University as “intolerable” and alleged police of brutally torturing incent students.

Talking about newly passed CAA and NRC, West Bengal CM at a rally in Javpur said, “Our slogan is CAB, NRC in Bengal”. " Bill was passed in Parliament without any consultation. You cant make out religion of a person through ir dress. re is end to conspiracies by BJP. y discreetly light fires in country. If you come across such fires, douse m immediately. We will t initiate violence," she ded.

Banerjee also asked protesters in state to create batches reing slogan ' CAB, NRC'. She asked m to emphasize on protest against amended citizenship law and proposed NRC exercise. Previously, Mamata Banerjee also heed a protest march in Kolkata against CAA and NRC on Monday.

Citizenship Amendment Act
Act seeks to provide citizenship to mirity communities namely Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Banglesh and Pakistan. This will be applicable to members of se communities having arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014. Moreover, y will t be considered as illegal migrants.

ditionally, mandatory residence period for naturalised citizenship for se communities would be reduced to 6 years. Several parties in rth East such as All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) have been vehemently opposed to this Act. To ameliorate ir concerns, Centre has exempted a major part of rth East from ambit of CAA. opposition contends that Bill discriminates on basis of religion, which might go against Article 14, which guarantees right to equality.
