Man Arrested After Being On The Run For 16 Years For Killing Wife Over Extramarital Affair

Noida Police apprehended a man who was on the run for 16 years for allegedly killing his wife over suspicion of an extramarital affair.

Noida: The Noida Police arrested a man who was missing for 16 years after allegedly killing his wife over suspicion of an extramarital affair on Tuesday. According to the officials, the accused, a 55-year-old native of Bihari, was arrested in Punjab on Monday. 

Sanjay Kurmi was a resident of Bihar who lived in Mari village in the Nalanda district who went missing on December 5, 2008.

Cops said he was wanted in connection to his wife's murder because he suspected her of having an extramarital affair. 

Accused Strikes Wife's Head With Pressure Cooker, Strangles Her

According to the spokesperson, Kurmi allegedly killed his wife by striking her head with a pressure cooker and strangling her. The FIR in the case was filed in 2008 at Noida Phase 2 police station under section 302 (murder), the police said. 

A reward money of Rs 25,000 was announced for the information leading to the arrest of the murder accused who had been living in various disguises across different states, they added.

Legal Proceedings Still Underway

"Following the constant efforts, the Noida Phase 2 police station team apprehended him on Monday from the Amritsar district in Punjab," the spokesperson stated, adding that further legal action was underway.
