Man Wraps Gold In Cloth, Unwraps It 30 Days Later To Find Out Wheat Inside In Gujarat

Rajkot: In a sensational heist, a 39-year-old man was swindled out of gold jewellery and cash totaling Rs 3.3 lakh by a conman posing as a priest in Gujarat 's Morbi town. The scammer took the valuables, claiming he needed them for rituals.

The victim, Bharat Sanariya, was instructed by the conman to wrap the gold in a cloth as part of a ritual. The accused, Nileshgiri alias Navigiri Gosai, then took the cloth into another room stating that he will offer it to divine forces. 

Man Asked To Wrap Gold In Cloth, Finds Out Only Wheat Inside

He returned after a while, and returned the cloth to victim telling him to wait 30 days before unwrapping it, claiming it would bring peace and prosperity to his family.

A month later, when Sanariya unwrapped the cloth, he was shocked to find only wheat grains inside. In disbelief, he immediately went to file a police complaint.

The victim informed the police that the accused, Gosai, had approached his father and convinced him that performing this ritual could eliminate all the family's domestic and financial problems.

They soon realized that Nileshgiri had tricked them and repeatedly asked him to return the gold and cash. However, he kept postponing, leading Sanariya to file a complaint at the Morbi City A-division police station on Friday, an official said. 

Earlier in September, two individuals set up an office masquerading as a courier service on CG Road and successfully deceived bullion traders. 

“They absconded with Rs 1.60 crore worth of gold (2100 grams) by using counterfeit Rs 500 notes. On September 23, Mehul Thakkar, a bullion trader from Manek Chowk, Ahmedabad, received a call from Prashant Patel, the manager of Lakshmi Jewellers. Patel informed Thakkar that a client was looking to purchase 2,100 grams of gold directly, and they agreed on a price of Rs 1.60 crore,” police said.
