BJP'S Delhi unit president Manoj Tiwari on Tuesday took a jibe at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on the free bus ride for women in state-run buses. Terming this move by Kejriwal as an 'election stunt', Tiwari said that this decision by the Chief Minister has come with elections just three months away. Speaking to ANI, Tiwari said,
"This decision of Kejriwal is an election stunt. He has done nothing in the past so many months for women in the city. Kejriwal has taken this decision as the elections are just three months away."
The free of cost travel scheme for women in Delhi public buses began on Tuesday with Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia saying it will ensure their safety and increase their role in the national capital's economy. Kejriwal, on his mobile application 'AK App' also said that this scheme will help in women empowerment by bridging the gender gap that exists in society
Tiwari further lashed out at the Chief Minister and questioned about the same benefits for students and senior citizens. "Why has he not included the students in the list. What about the aged people. Why this scheme was implemented just three months before the elections," said Tiwari.
Marshals on Delhi buses
Earlier, the Delhi CM had announced an important step for the safety of women using public transport. He stated that 13,000 marshals would be deployed on public buses. He contended that they would also help patients having poor health. Furthermore, he claimed that Delhi was the only State in the country to implement such an initiative.
Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections next year, CM Kejriwal has been announcing a number of schemes that the Opposition touts as 'freebies'. From free bus ride for women to free metro ride to reduction in electricity bill, Kejriwal's announcements have been criticised by the Opposition.
