Maoist Killed, Policeman Injured in Gunfight in Odisha

Malkangiri: A Maoist was killed and a policeman was injured during a gunfight between security forces and red rebels in Jineliguda forest near Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, police said on Thursday.

exchange of fire took place on Wednesday night as police personnel launched an operation to stop inflow of Maoists to Odisha through forest in Malkangiri district, a senior officer said.

Two Maoists were also arrested during operation, he said.

injured policeman, identified as Damaru Banaik, has been mitted to Malkangiri District Hequarters Hospital, he said.

deceased Maoist is yet to be identified, officer said.

" exchange of fire continued for two hours. Later, police have launched a combing operation in area," he ded.
