Kota residents met Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, an MP from Kota, to register their protest against the forthcoming Rani Mukherjee’s upcoming film Mardaani 2. They said that the city has been positioned as an educational hub with many educational centres situated in its vicinity. However, the film shot in Kota shows a different story of city which is against the city’s legacy. The film’s trailer released on Thursday shows a serial rapist and murderer in Kota who targets young girls. It also mentions that the film is inspired by true events.
LS Speaker on the controversy:
Birla after meeting protesters spoke to media and said that the issue will be discussed with concerned people. “It is unacceptable to malign a city’s name through cinema. The fictional story clearly mentioning the city’s name is not justified,” he added
The film has Rani Mukerji playing a police officer posing as Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 2 who vows to catch the serial rapist in two days.
The movie is an action-thriller where a woman fights the crimes committed on other women by society. The previous edition of the film was based on child trafficking. This action movie series is written and directed by Gopi Puthran who is making his directoral debut in Bollywood with this action film.
Trailer Review
The trailer begins by showcasing the data by NCRB, which expounded how more than two thousand rape crimes are committed by teenage or juvenile boys every year in India. Presenting the number, the narrator informs the audience those were only the registered cases. Set in the city of Rajasthan, Kota, the Mardaani 2 trailer features a brutal assault on a young girl who is killed after being raped and tortured. Shifting between the crime scenes, the trailer shows scenes inside the testing lab and police station until Shivani can be heard saying that she will catch the ‘monster’ in a press conference.
