Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy on Friday stoked controversy by asking those who do not want "divisive democracy" to go to North Korea.

"A democracy is NECESSARILY DIVISIVE. If you do t want it go to rth Korea," Roy tweeted during day.
goverr was apparently backing new Citizenship Act.
"Two things should never be lost sight of in present atmosphere of controversy. 1. country was once divided in name of religion. 2. A democracy is NECESSARILY DIVISIVE.
If you dont want it go to rth Korea, he said.
His tweet came hours before protesters reached entrance of Raj Bhavan, tried to breach security following which y were lathi-charged and tear-gassed leaving several of m seriously injured.
Two police personnel were also injured in melee.
protesters were demanding Goverr to give his assent to proposed ordinance that seeks mandatory registration of outsiders entering state and at same time for Centre to implement Inner Line Permit in state.
