Politics have heated up since reports emerged that Kerala Police Acemy excluded beef from menu prescribed for trainees. BJP MP and Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan accused Left and CPI (M) of raking up issue of beef in Kerala for political gains.
Speaking to reporters in Malappuram, V Muraleedharan said, " Left and CPI (M) have been raising many issues, t on merit but on basis of political benefit that y can derive out of it. Earlier y posed mselves as people vocating that re should be restriction on food. w y are putting restrictions, which shows that ir opposition is purely on basis of political considerations and t on or aspects."

Reports baseless say cops
However, Kerala police department h clarified that reports of beef being omitted from menu prescribed for newly trained police batch are baseless.

"As per decision of Mess Committee which consists of trainees' representatives and police officers, y were instructed to prepare healthy meals with food available in ir respective areas. aim is to ensure that trainees get energy y need through diet," re a statement issued by police department.

Last month, a controversy surrounding Kerala Tourism sharing a beef recipe on Twitter on occasion of Makar Sankranti h erupted. Kerala Tourism h shared recipe of a local meat dish, popular in Central Travancore region of Kerala, named Beef Ularthiyathu, which is a special delicacy in region. Taking to its Twitter handle, Kerala Tourism wrote, "A recipe for most classic dish, Beef Ularthiyathu, from land of spices, Kerala."
Vishwa Hindu Parish (VHP) leer Vid Bansal criticized this tweet saying it hurts sentiments of crores of Hindus who worship cows and sought action from Home Minister Amit Shah, as well MoS of Culture and Tourism Prahl Patel against department.

Repeated controversies
debate over beef in Karaka is hardly a new one, with numerous flashpoints taking place in last few years. Among se was a 2017 controversy that witnessed beef being served for breakfast in state assembly as MLAs protested against a new tification by Centre regarding illegal slaughter of cows.
