'Moti Bagh' documentary on Indian farmer's life gets Oscar nomination

According to Uttrakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Moti Bagh, a documentary film based on the struggle of a farmer in a remote Himalayan village, has been nominated for the Oscars.
A film based on life of Vidyadutt
The film, which is based on the life of Vidyadutt, a farmer living in Uttarkhand's Pauri Garhwal region, shows the struggle that the farmer goes through to till the inhabited lands of the hills and how the state has witnessed migration over generations together. It also shows Nepali farmers, who, according to the film have done a lot for the land and continue to support the people of the region, in sickness and in health.

A Nepali farmer is also seen talking about how when he came to the area, people would call him by different names, subtly pointing out that he was a Nepali and was not one of them.

The trailer of the film further shows Vidyadutt’s son talking about his big plans for the farm. He is seen saying, in the trailer, that he wants all good things for the farms and that it would be nice to have huts built for the tourists to live in, on the farms. He also says that he often envisions how nice the tourists would feel when they’d eat fruits sitting right in the middle of the jungle.

CM congratulated the director
The Chief Minister congratulated the director, Nirmal Chander Dandriyal in the aftermath of receiving a prestigious Oscar nomination. Rawat said the film will inspire youths to stay in their villages and work for their communities. 'It will help stop migrations from remote areas', he said. The Chief Minister appealed to young farmers to play a role in preventing migration and said they should take advantage of schemes launched by the state government.
