MP Floods: State seeks Rs 11,861-crore relief package from Centre

Mhya Presh government has sought a financial pack of over Rs 11,800 crore from Centre for relief and rehabilitation work in flood-hit areas of State, a minister said on Wednesday.
'Centre should sanction a pack to MP'
Three dozen districts have been affected by floods and heavy rains in state. "Prima facie, floods have damd properties and crops worth Rs 11,861 crore. Centre should immediately sanction a pack of this amount to Mhya Presh, Minister for Public Relations PC Sharma said at a press conference. He accused opposition BJP of playing politics over flood issue. "Inste of politicising issue, BJP leers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Rakesh Singh (state BJP President) should sit on a dharna to get Centre sanction this fund to State, so that relief could be provided to people and farmers at earliest," Sharma said.

8,000 vills affected
Minister said, "Over 8,000 vills across 36 out of 52 districts in State were affected by excessive rains and floods. rains and floods have damd crops on 24 lakh hectares of land, affecting 22 lakh farmers. Dam caused to crops is estimated at around Rs 9,600 crore. Ros have suffered dam to tune of Rs 1,566 crore." He ded that a central team would visit State this week to estimate extent of devastation caused by rains and floods. minister claimed that state ministration has so far rescued about 50,000 people and shifted m to safer places in different parts of Mhya Presh.

Gujarat Govt's dues to Mhya Presh
Minister furr said that Gujarat Government has to pay dues of about Rs. 10,000 crore to Mhya Presh under various hes like forest and revenue land that is part of submergence area of Sardar Sarovar Dam. Besides, Centre has withheld disbursal of ar Rs. 10,000 crore to Congress-ruled state under various schemes and allocation by Finance Commission, he said. "We will have to take legal recourse if Centre does t release this amount," Sharma said in reply to a question. He said that a team of engineers from Central Water Commission on Wednesday visited Gandhi Sagar Dam located in Mandsaur and Neemuch districts. He said that team praised way MPs water resources department tackled flow of excessive rainwater into dam.

BJP leer calls floods 'man-me crisis'
On Tuesday, BJP leer Shivraj Singh Chouhan h alleged that flood in Neemuch and Mandsaur districts was a "man-me crisis". former chief minister h said that inundation of vills in se two districts could have been averted h sluice gates of Gandhi Sagar Dam opened on time.
