Mumbai's Central line faced significant disruptions on Tuesday evening as an overhead wire snapped between Thakurli and Kalyan stations, affecting local train services for at least 90 minutes. The incident occurred at 7:20 PM on the Down slow (Kalyan-bound) line, resulting in the halting of at least four local trains.

A Central Railway spokesperson stated, "The services were restored more than one-and-a-half hours after rectifying the issue." However, the delay caused local trains to fall behind schedule by at least 15 to 20 minutes, leading to crowded platforms and packed trains during the peak evening rush hour.

Central Railway operates approximately 1,800 local train services across its main, harbour, trans-harbour, and Belapur-Uran corridors, catering to around 40 lakh commuters travelling between south Mumbai and the extended suburbs. The incident highlights the challenges faced by the rail network in accommodating the vast number of daily passengers.
