Mumbai Monsoon Mayhem: Indigo, Air India Issue Advisory for Flyers as Rain Hits Flight Operations

Amid heavy rain and waterlogging in the city, Indigo announced that flights were affected and congestion in air traffic was reported on Friday.

Mumbai: Heavy rains lashed the city on Friday morning, leaving several areas waterlogged. The rains have disrupted air traffic in the city, prompting airlines, including Indigo and Air India, to issue a travel advisory for flyers.

Amid heavy rain and waterlogging in the city, flight operations to and from Mumbai were affected and congestion in air traffic was reported on Friday.

Taking to X, Indigo wrote, "Flights are impacted due to heavy rains and air traffic congestion in #Mumbai. Do keep a tab on the flight status(sic)."

Alerting flyers about affected flights, Air India tweeted," Flights to and from Mumbai are getting affected due to heavy rains. Guests are advised to start early for the airport, as slow traffic and waterlogging may delay movement (sic). "

Orange alert for Today

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued an orange alert for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra's Konkan region. Waterlogging was reported in several areas of the city including APMC Market, Turbhe Mafco and King's Circle. 

The authorities also issued a ‘high tide’ warning of 3.87 metres at 4:06 pm today. The maximum and minimum temperatures will likely settle around 29 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively. The city is likely to witness wet spell ahead as a yellow alert is in place after July 13 until July 15.

The city has been receiving heavy rains for the last week. Rains also resulted in severe waterlogging, traffic snarls, and train and flight disruptions.
