Mumbai Police imposes Sec 144 from Sept 10-19, bans processions during Ganesh Chaturthi
The police have urged devotees to take darshan of Lord Ganesha, online or via any other electronic medium. The order will be applicable only in Mumbai

Concerned over rapid increase in number of COVID cases during last couple of days in city and to contain spre of lethal virus, Mumbai Police on Thursday declared that Section 144 of CrPC will be imposed in city from September 10-19. ten-day Ganeshostsav, which is celebrated with all zeal and enthusiasm in city, is set to begin from September 10.
police also stated that no Ganpati procession will be allowed in city while barring not more than 5 people to gar at a place. police have also urged devotees to take darshan of Lord Ganesha, online or via any or electronic medium. order will be applicable under jurisdiction of Mumbai Police Commissionerate.

Maharashtra government imposes restrictions
It should be noted here that CM Uddhav Thackeray led-Maharashtra government h on Wednesday issued a directive stating that Ganesh Chaturthi festivities won't be allowed in public places. "It is prohibited to visit idol of Lord Ganesha or visit mandap and darshan should be me available online or through electronic means," a statement released by Maharashtra Home ministry maintained.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a statement h said, "Considering potential danger of a third COVID wave, devotees are strictly forbidden from taking darshan. It has been decided that Ganeshotsav pandals should provide darshan facility to devotees through cable network, website, Facebook or or social media."

Massive crowd gars Mumbai's Dar
Meanwhile, a huge crowd was seen at Mumbai's Dar Market on Thursday evening as people thronged in numbers for shopping ahe of Ganeshotsav and were seen blatantly flouting COVID norms and guidelines. Many were also observed without a mask. BMC failed to deploy officials to take account of massive garing in densely populated area in city.
Meanwhile, daily fresh cases in Mumbai took a lift beyond 500 mark on Wednesday with 532 cases for first time since July 15. While fresh cases in Maharashtra rose to 4,174. city also recorded 4 deaths during last 24 hours while state registered a total of 65 fatalities.
