Demanding a reservation for Marathas in Maharashtra, Maratha Kranti Morcha on Sunday afteron performed a sit-in protest in Thane. Supporting 'chain hunger strike' protest, people from Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar, and Raigad gared in large numbers for protest in Thane. Moreover, Mumbai Dabbawalas Association too std a reservation demanding Uddhav Thackeray government to take steps to let Marathas avail reservation, stayed by Supreme Court.

Maratha reservation protest
"Almost 99% of Dabbawalas belong to Maratha community. stay order in Maratha reservation will affect our children. To avoid such adverse effects, Maharashtra govt must take necessary steps. Do whatever you want to ensure reservation is allowed by SC and we can avail benefits," reads statement issued by Dabbawalas.
Solapur & Kolhapur protest
On Friday, members of Maratha Kranti Morcha in Solapur's Shivaji Chowk area std protests against state and Union governments, conducting a mock funeral of state and Central governments and demanded that two work toger to ensure community gets justice. In Kolhapur, members of Maratha outfits tried to stop vehicles on highway and warned y would disrupt milk supply to Mumbai as part of ir agitation. In a move to appease powerful Maratha community, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that Maharashtra government approved mass recruitment of 12,538 police officials.

SC stays Maratha reservation, refers matter to larger bench
On September 9, Supreme Court passed an interim order staying use of Maratha quota for reservations in government jobs and college admissions in 2020-21. While passing interim order, top court also said that a larger bench will determine validity of Maratha quota. SC ted that Maharashtra has t shown any extraordinary situation for providing reservations to Marathas in excess of 50 percent, adding that Marathas which comprise 30% of population cant be compared to marginalized sections of society living in far-flung and remote areas. top court also made it clear that PG admissions will t be affected by its interim order.

Responding to stay on Maratha reservation, NCP chief Sharad Pawar remarked, "I think that state government has decided to come up with an ordinance. I have t examined it through legal prism. In my understanding of law, an ordinance can be an option." He said that re is any difference between Centre and state on this issue.
