Museum to come up in Kolhapur in memory of Polish World War 2 refugees

The Maharashtra government is setting up a museum to commemorate around 5,000 Polish World War II refugees who lived in Valivade, Kolhapur between 1942 to 1948

Maharashtra government is setting up a museum to commemorate around 5,000 Polish World War II refugees who lived in Valive, Kolhapur in Western Maharashtra between 1942 to 1948.

Museum for Polish Refugees of World War II

A press release by Press Information Bureau re, “A permanent museum will be set up here containing Photographs, paintings, and or important items and materials from that era. purpose of this museum is to keep memories of past alive for next generations. museum will be built in one year time".

press release said that Polish citizens who spent ir childhood from 1942 to 1948 in Valive, Kolhapur will also be staying in Kolhapur for three days between September 13-15, 2019 to relive ir childhood memories. Some of m have arrived on Thursday and participated in Ganesh immersion ceremony.  attendees of commemoration ceremony include Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassor of Poland in India, am Burakowski; Member of Parliament Sambhaji Chhatrapati and Guardian Minister of Kolhapur, Chandrakant Da Patil will also be present at event on Saturday.

Daulat Desai, district collector, Kolhapur, said that citizens from Poland, w settled in US, UK, Australia, Cana, South Africa, New Zealand and Middle East regularly visit Valive and cemetery as y were born in Valive or were between 4 to 10 years of when y left refugee camp and after peace returned to war-torn States.

A business conclave has also been organized on Saturday morning with leing industrialists of Kolhapur, wherein foundry, auto parts, high precision tools, sugar and jaggery products, etc. will be discussed.
