Muzaffarpur Mass rape: Accused Mastermind Brajesh Thakur to be moved to Bhagalpur Jail

The mastermind behind the horrific Muzaffarpur mass rape, Brajesh Thakur is going to be shifted to Bhagalpur jail in Bihar from Muzaffarpur, while the 14 other accused in the case will be shifted to the Beur jail in Patna. According to Inspector General of the prison, Mithilesh Mishra, this decision has come following a request made by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the administrative grounds for smooth investigation of the case. In a letter addressed to the District Magistrate of Muzaffarpur, CBI suggested that accused Brijesh Thakur has a lot of connection and influence in the city such that nobody is ready to speak against him in the case. Henceforth, all the accused should be shifted out of Muzaffarpur for further investigation.

Further, the letter was sent to the Home Department after which an order was passed by the court to this effect to shift the accused to Bhagalpur Central Jail in Bihar.

Brijesh Thakur, being a resident of Muzaffarpur has a huge clout in the city because of which people were speaking against him. Thakur is the main accused in mass rape of 34 girls in a shelter home run by him in Muzaffarpur. He was arrested on May 25 by the Bihar police. So far, a total of 15 arrests have been made in the mass rape case by the police.

Three days before this decision, the CBI had dug up a cremation ground in Muzaffarpur's Sikandarpur area where they found samples of skeletons. The digging took place after information furnished by main kingpin Brajesh Thakur's driver Vijay who was arrested fortnight ago along with 3 others. Vijay was taken by the CBI to the cremation ground and according to his direction, the digging was initiated.

Also, on October 9, Patna High Court rejected the anticipatory bail petition of ex Bihar minister Manju Verma who was probed in connection with Muzaffarpur mass rape case.

In shocking and horrifying testimonies of the victims from the other Muzaffarpur shelter ‘Balika Grih’, which was backed by state-funded (main accused) Brajesh Thakur-owned NGOs Sewa Sankalp and Vikas Samiti, 34 of 42 rescued girls were either raped or molested. The victims, all of whom were minors and some of whom were as young as 7 years old, revealed to probe officers the atrocities they had been forcefully subjected to, including rape, sexual abuse, torture, the use of sleeping pills to facilitate sexual abuse by visitors, and even murder, as per three accounts.
