Mysore-Darbhanga Express Collides With Goods Train Near Chennai, 2 Coaches Catch Fire

The Mysore-Darbhanga express train on Friday collided with a stationary goods train at a railway station in Kavarapettai, near Tamil Nadu's capital city Chennai. After the massive collision, at least three coaches caught fire leading to major chaos at the site. According to the railway police, several people have suffered serious injuries.

Reports suggested that no major injury was reported to any passenger during the train collision accident. However, teams of doctors and ambulances have reached the spot.

At least 6 coaches including the train engine derailed, while three coaches caught fire. 

• Accident Occurs Between Ponneri-Kavarapettai Section

According to the railway sources, the incident occurred at around 8.30 pm between the Ponneri-Kavarapettai section, when train number 12578 collided with a goods train. It is being claimed that the train passed Ponneri at 8.27 pm, when suddenly the train crew experienced a heavy jerk as the train entered into a loop line and ended up colliding with a stationed goods train. 

• Tiruvallur Police Issues Statement

The Tiruvallur police stated that a passenger train from Mysore to Darbhanga via Perambur collided with a goods train standing at Kavaraipettai railway station near Thiruvallur. The railway officials have rushed to the spot of the accident.

• Hospitals Put On Standby

According to the reports, the train collision occurred near Kavaraipettai in Thiruvallur, when the passenger train collided with a goods train. The train was on its way to Darbhanga from Mysuru. At least six compartments of the train derailed in the accident. A rescue operation was immediately initiated. Rescue efforts to assist the public are underway. Nearby hospitals around Kavaraipettai are on standby, according to the District Collector.

The DRM Chennai Southern Railway rushed to the site along with several rescue teams.

An accident between a freight train and the Mysore-Darbhanga express train occurred in Kavaraipettai near Chennai.
