At least 6 coaches including the train engine derailed, while three coaches caught fire.
- Accident Occurs Between Ponneri-Kavarapettai Section
According to the railway sources, the incident occurred at around 8.30 pm between the Ponneri-Kavarapettai section, when train number 12578 collided with a goods train. It is being claimed that the train passed Ponneri at 8.27 pm, when suddenly the train crew experienced a heavy jerk as the train entered into a loop line and ended up colliding with a stationed goods train.

The Tiruvallur police stated that a passenger train from Mysore to Darbhanga via Perambur collided with a goods train standing at Kavaraipettai railway station near Thiruvallur. The railway officials have rushed to the spot of the accident.

According to the reports, the train collision occurred near Kavaraipettai in Thiruvallur, when the passenger train collided with a goods train. The train was on its way to Darbhanga from Mysuru. At least six compartments of the train derailed in the accident. A rescue operation was immediately initiated. Rescue efforts to assist the public are underway. Nearby hospitals around Kavaraipettai are on standby, according to the District Collector.
