Nagar Kirtan of Sikh devotees to Nankana Sahib departs from Delhi

A religious procession (Nagar Kirtan) of Sikh devotees from New Delhi started off their spiritual journey on Monday morning to the birthplace of Guru Nanak, founder of Sikh religion, in Nankana Sahib in Pakistan.

The Nagar Kirtan is led by Sardar Paramjit Singh Sarna, former president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), and includes representatives from different sections of the Sikh community in India. The Nagar Kirtan was seen off among others by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The Nagar Kirtan via Ludhiana and Amritsar would be crossing over to Pakistan on October 31 through Wagah border.
On July 30, a special Jatha led by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and DSGMC visited Nankana Sahib, Pakistan from to kick-start the celebrations of the 550th Anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak.

Kartarpur Corridor
Earlier on October 25, India and Pakistan on Thursday signed a landmark agreement to operationalise the historic Kartarpur Corridor to allow Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit the holy Darbar Sahib in Pakistan. The Indian delegation was represented by the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Defence (MOD), Ministry of External Affairs of India (MEA) and Punjab Government. The corridor will be opened by Pakistan on November 9. Both the countries have also decided that the corridor will be operational throughout the year and seven days a week and that pilgrims will have a choice to visit it as individuals or in groups.

Nankana Sahib is a city and capital of the Nankana Sahib District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is named after the first Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Nanak, who was born in the city and first began preaching here. Today it is a city of high historic and religious value and a popular pilgrimage site for Sikhs from all over the world.
