NCR netizens share pictures of air purifiers showing poor AQI indoors

People living in Delhi continue to suffer low air quality which had reached 'severe plus' level on Friday. As per ANI, air pollution levels in Delhi on Sunday reached to hazardous level and visibility dropped significantly as a thick blanket of smog engulfed several parts of the city.  As the condition worsened, netizens shared images of the thick smog in their area and more worryingly, images of poor air quality indoors too.

On Twitter, several shared images of their air purifiers to show how unhealthy the air was even inside their homes, despite the use of technology. Many reported the air quality level over 200. An AQI between 0-50 is considered "good", 51-100 "satisfactory", 101-200 "moderate", 201-300 "poor", 301-400 "very poor", and 401-500 "severe", above 500 is "severe-plus or emergency" category. The #DelhiAirEmergency has been one of Twitter top trends since Saturday.

Centre, state pass the buck

In view of the situation, the AAP government in Delhi announced the implementation of the Odd-Even scheme from November 4 to 15, 2019. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal stated that the smog from the nearby states caused by the burning of crop residue caused pollution in the region. Meanwhile, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Delhi CM shouldn't engage in politics over the issue and said that states facing the situation must come together to find a solution.

Supreme Court panel on Friday had declared a public health emergency and ordered a ban on construction activity till November 5. The Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Activity has banned bursting of crackers in winter. However, the air quality continues to deteriorate, as on Sunday, the AQI level crossed 1000 for most parts of Delhi.
