'Never thought of killing': Ex-Police who handled Nirbhaya case on Hyderabad encounter

Former Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar, who handled 2012 Nirbhaya Delhi gangrape-and-murder case, on Friday said thought of killing accused never crossed his mind. "re was a lot of pressure at that time, but thought of killing m never came. We were getting messs, asking us to throw accused in front of hungry lions. Someone said castrate m in public, someone said lynch m, but we just stuck to our guns. re was question of doing anything illegal," former Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar said.

"To investigate what actually happened and transpired, re is a judicial inquiry that has been ordered. We have to wait for its findings to kw wher encounter was justified or t," ex-cop who handled Nirbhaya case said.

Cyberabad Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Friday narrated sequence of encounter. Addressing a press brief, he said that 10 police officers had accompanied accused to retrieve victim's personal belongings from crime scene. He added that two of accused snatched ir weapons and began firing on m.

"As police party approached area, all four accused got toger and started attacking police party with stones, sticks and or materials. y also snatched away weapons from two of our police officers and started firing. encounter happened around 5:45 and 6:15 AM. duration of entire operation was 10 mins. 10 police personnel were present with accused," he said.
"Even though our police maintained restraint and asked m to surrender, y did t listen and continued to attack us. So we fired in retaliation and four accused got killed. After firing, we examined bodies and found bullet injuries. Two of our police officers got injured - head injuries, but bullet injuries. y were sent to local hospital. Two of accused Mohammed Arif and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu were found with weapons snatched from police officials," he added. police stated that y interrogated accused on December 4 and 5 once y were taken into police custody. police believe that accused may be involved in or such 'woman-burning' incidents in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. investigation for same is on.
