New Delhi: One dead, senior citizen severely injured after three shanties catch fire in Shakarpur

One died while an elderly man suffered 30 percent burn injuries after three shanties caught fire in east Delhi's Shakarpur area on Monday.

One died while an elderly man suffered 30 percent burn injuries after three shanties caught fire in east Delhi's Shakarpur area on Monday, said the police. 

Around eight o'clock at night, the Shakarpur police station received a PCR call about the incident; the fire department was then notified, according to a senior police official..

The officer stated that preliminary investigation indicated that the fire started in some tires and spread to surrounding shanties.

According to the authorities, a sixty-two-year-old man named Nathu Lal was saved from a shanty with about thirty percent of his body burned.

They stated that a burned body was found in one of the shanties after the fire was put out.

According to the officer, the injured man was carried to a hospital, and the body was taken to a mortuary for identification and post-mortem.

The police offer stated that an investigation had been launched to asses the cause of fire incident. 

He added that an investigation is started to find out the cause of fire. (With inputs from ANI)
