The State Bank of India (SBI) has introduced a new design for its FASTag system, aimed at addressing the misuse of tags on larger vehicles. According to the reports, the redesigned FASTag targets Vehicle Class-4 (VC-04), which encompasses cars, jeeps, and vans.

New FASTag Design to Combat Misuse

The primary objective of the new FASTag design is to curb the practice of using smaller vehicle tags on higher class vehicles, such as trucks. This misuse has resulted in a significant revenue loss for toll plazas. SBI's new FASTag design will facilitate the easier identification of vehicle classes, allowing toll staff to take immediate action against vehicles incorrectly tagged. The new FASTag has been available since August 30, 2024.

SBI Launches Additional Products

In addition to the updated FASTag, SBI has launched several other financial products. Among these is India's first MTS card - the MTS RuPay NCMC prepaid card. This card is designed to provide a seamless offline payment solution for various transit projects, including metro rails, buses, ferries, tolls, and parking.

"The MTS RuPay NCMC prepaid card is designed to offer a seamless, offline payment solution for all NCMC-enabled transit projects, including metro rails, buses, ferries, tolls, and parking," SBI stated in its press release.

SBI has also introduced the OneView mobile application, which aims to streamline the management of SBI's NCMC Prepaid Cards. This app allows customers to top-up, track, and manage their cards from a single platform.

“The Nation First MTS Card, issued without the need for KYC verification, along with the OneView app, streamlines card management, making it easier for users to top-up without the need to visit metro or bus counters,” said Mahesh Kumar Sharma, DMD - Transaction Banking and New Initiatives at SBI.
