New York: Artists from the Indian community showcased several traditional folk dances at Nassau Coliseum ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s address to Indian Diaspora in New York.

Artists from the Indian community performed Yakshagana, a traditional folk dance form from the coastal districts of Karnataka.

Yakshagana is a traditional folk dance form popular in Coastal Karnataka districts. A trip to the coastal belt would be incomplete without watching the Yakshagana – an elaborate dance-drama performance unique to Karnataka. It is a rare combination of dance, music, song, scholarly dialogues and colorful costumes. 

Artists from the Indian community also perform on Assamese and Gujarati folk songs. 

Members of the Indian diaspora belonging to Tamil Nadu played the traditional musical instrument 'Parai'. 

Parai Is Considered As Oldest Drum In Indian History

Parai, also known as Thappu, is a traditional drum and is considered the oldest drum in Indian history. It is primarily used in Southern India, particularly in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Look Like Entire America Has Gathered At Nassau Coliseum 

BJP leader Hans Raj Hans said it is a proud moment that so many Indians gathered at Nassau Coliseum to listen to Prime Minister Modi. 

"It looks like the entire America has gathered here. We should be proud that so many people have come to listen to PM Modi," he said. 

A historic gathering is taking place at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York, where 15,000 members of the Indian diaspora have come together from 42 different states to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi .
