No coercive steps be taken against comedian Bharti Singh:HC

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday directed the Punjab Police not to take "coercive steps" against comedian Bharti Singh on her plea seeking quashing of an FIR for allegedly hurting religious sentiments during a TV show.

Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday directed Punjab Police t to take "coercive steps" against comedian Bharti Singh on her plea seeking quashing of an FIR for allegedly hurting religious sentiments during a TV show. Justice Sudip Ahluwalia posted matter for furr hearing on March 25.

An FIR was filed against actor Raveena Tandon, filmmaker Farah Khan and comedian for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by ir remarks during a TV show. Bharti's counsel Abhinav Sood said matter will w be heard along with pleas of Raveena Tandon and Farah Khan.

court has alrey ordered similar relief to Tandon and Khan. In her petition, Bharti h h sought quashing of FIR and a stay on Punjab Police investigation. three were booked by Amritsar Police in December last on basis of a complaint by Sonu Jafar, President of Christian Front, Ajnala.

In petition, Bharti submitted that offence was me out against her under IPC Section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outr religious feelings of any class).

"ne of ingredients pertaining to offence under IPC Section 295-A are me out", counsel said.

FIR was "illegal, ex-facie b in law, and by virtue reof same be quashed and set aside," counsel said, ding allegation against comedian was "vague and general in nature".
