Dehradun: Following the recent decision by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami concerning land laws, the Uttarakhand government has ramped up efforts to combat illegal land transactions in the state.
State Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal addressed the situation, emphasising the government's commitment to enforcing land regulations. “The state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is serious about land law,” he stated. He outlined that actions will be taken against individuals who purchase land but do not utilise it for its intended purpose, with such land reverting to the state government.
Moreover, the government will also target families that have exceeded the limit of 250 square metres of land acquisition, confiscating any excess property. Uniyal encouraged citizens to become involved, stressing the importance of awareness and participation in the government's initiatives. “The people of the state should preserve their ancestral land and not sell it,” he urged.
Commitment to Land Law Enforcement
Uniyal further clarified that amendments to the land law that have previously failed to produce desired outcomes will be reconsidered. “There will be no hesitation in amending them as per public sentiments,” he added, indicating that the future land law is being designed with the protection of citizens' rights in mind.
The Chief Minister's recent directives aim to implement land laws reflective of public sentiment in the upcoming budget session. The state government has established the Subhash Kumar Committee, alongside a separate committee led by Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, which is currently gathering suggestions, holding meetings, and finalising the draft of the new land law.
The government is making every effort to ensure that reforms align with the interests of the state's residents, aiming to uphold their rights while regulating land use effectively.
