Noida and Ghaziabad Water Cut: Residents of Noida and Ghaziabad will face a water shortage starting from Sunday, October 13, as the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department will halt the Ganga water supply for 20 days. This stoppage is due to the annual maintenance work on the upper Ganga canal in Haridwar, which will affect around 10 lakh residents in areas like Indirapuram, Vasundhara, Vaishali, and Delta Colony.
Water Supply Disruption and Alternative Arrangements
Although the Ganga water supply will stop, authorities from the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) have assured alternative arrangements. However, residents may only receive water in the mornings, and even then, the pressure will be low, leading to reduced supply.
The maintenance will also impact the already disrupted water supply caused by a transformer issue that was recently repaired. Despite this, areas like Abhay Khand 3, Gyan Khand 2, and Ahinsa Khand 2 of Indirapuram have been experiencing low water pressure.
Affected Areas and Resident Complaints
Residents of Indirapuram's Abhay Khand, Nyay Khand, Gyan Khand, Shakti Khand, and Vasundhara sectors 9, 10, 7, and 8, along with Kaushambi, Vaishali sectors 5, 7, and 9, will face water supply issues during this period. Complaints have already emerged from Vasundhara Sector 9, where residents are struggling with daily tasks due to the water shortage. Many have resorted to purchasing bottled water for their basic needs.
In some areas, such as Kaushambi and Vasundhara Sector 10, broken pipelines have further worsened the situation, leaving several areas without any water supply at all.
Residents Urged to Conserve Water
With this prolonged disruption, residents are advised to conserve water and rely on alternative sources as much as possible. The Ganga water supply is expected to resume by November 2, when the canal maintenance is completed.
