As troubles mount for Congress president Rahul Gandhi over his controversial statement "all thieves have Modi in their surnames", former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi has launched a blistering attack at him, threatening to sue him in UK court.

Lalit Modi took to Twitter on Friday and said that "Rahul Gandhi says 'All MODI's are CHOR's'. Well he will be taken to court in the UK by me." Later, he called out the Gandhi family over "five decades of daylight looting of India."

In another tweet, he asked the social media users to decide who is 'chor' and who is 'chowkidar', adding a video which shows how the various scams the Gandhi family was involved into.

Earlier, senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi for his "all thieves have Modi surname" statement. The case has been filed in Patna court, under section 500 of the IPC, and is likely to be taken up on April 22.

Earlier, a defamation suit was filed against Congress president Rahul Gandhi in a court in Bhopal on Monday over the same remark.

“I have faced a lot of insult because of his remark. A lot of people asked if all Modis are thieves and hence I filed the suit,” said Pradeep Modi, the petitioner.

The Congress president on 13 April, while taking a jibe at Prime Minister Modi, had reportedly said: “I have a question. Why do all thieves have Modi in their names — whether it is Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi or Narendra Modi? We don’t know how many more such Modis will come out.”
