The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a notification ordering the inter-cadre deputation of 1992 batch IPS officer Nalin Prabhat curtailing his tenure as the NSG DG. In its order, the MHA stated that the inter-cadre deputation of Nalin Prabhat from Andhra Pradesh to the AGMUT Cadre, will be initially for a period of three years from the date of joining the AGMUT cadre or until further orders.

In an officer memorandum, the MHA said, “It is requested that Shri Nalin Prabhat, IPS (AP:92), DG, NSG may be relieved immediately to enable him to join AGMUT cadre.”

Along with IPS Nalin Prabhat, the Union government has appointed 1989 batch IAS officer Govind Mohan as the new Home Secretary of India. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of IAS Govind Mohan, who is presently handling the charge of the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and as an Officer on Special Duty in the MHA.

Mohan will take charge as the home secretary as the tenure of the present home secretary, 1984 batch IAS officer, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, is slated to end on August 22.

Ajay Kumar Bhalla, a 1984-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, was appointed as Home Secretary in August 2019 and remained in the post for almost half a decade. He will now be replaced by Govind Mohan, a 1989-Sikkim cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, who is the secretary of the Ministry of Culture.

Mohan, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, had served as joint secretary and additional secretary in the Union Home Ministry before being appointed as secretary in the Ministry of Culture in October 2021.
