Nurse Molested by Patient During Late Night Shift At West Bengal Hospital

Bolpur: A nurse at a government hospital in West Bengal's Birbhum district was allegedly molested and verbally abused by a male patient late Saturday night. This incident has occurred just weeks after the shocking rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College.

The assault occured at Illambazar block hospital when a man, who had been admitted with a high fever, attempted to outrage the modesty of the on-duty nurse. According to Birbhum's Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH), Himadri Ari, the hospital authorities promptly reported the incident to the police. The accused was arrested and transferred to Bolpur sub-divisional hospital for further treatment.

"The patient started abusing me as soon as he arrived," the nurse said, adding, "I ignored and started treating him, but suddenly he touched me inappropriately while I was administering saline." On Sunday, doctors and health staff of the hospital staged a rally demanding round-the-clock security for medics.

In response to the incident, doctors and health staff at the hospital organized a rally on Sunday, demanding 24/7 security for medical professionals. "Despite the R G Kar incident, not much has changed regarding our security," stated one of the nurses participating in the protest.
