In a major development, Oil India Limited (OIL) has stated, on Monday, that oil well blown out in Assam's Dulaijan, near Tinsukia district is flowing gas uncontrollably. OIL has also updated three experts from Singapore are currently at site. Currently, OIL is in final assembling process of Well Control Operation mechanism to begin control process. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is at site assisting in relief operation and clearing site.

On May 27, a major blowout took place at a producing gas well of OIL at Baghjan, next to Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, as per reports. This had forced administration to evacuate around 2,500 people from 650 families living nearby as natural gas kept sprouting continuously. equipment to begin controlling of oilwell was delayed due to excessive rainfall. OIL has started to do environmental impact assessment study and bioremediation process due to oil blowout.

In order to subdue or kill well, drilling mud will have to be pumped immediately after capping well by BOP, which is currently underway.

Probe into fatalities due to oilwell blowout

While OIL has stated that re are fatalities due to blowout, it has requested District Magistrate of Assam’s Tinsukia to probe reported deaths of four people due to possible pollution from blowout. “As on date, re is report of any such very serious health issues due to blowout. OIL has requested DM of Tinsukia to investigate matter so that real cause of deaths could be ascertained,” statement said.
