New Delhi: At least seven individuals, including a Delhi-based doctor, have been arrested in connection with an alleged organ transplant racket operating between Bangladesh and the Delhi-NCR region, police said on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, the Delhi Police Crime Branch had been working on the case for two months. A majority of the donors and recipients are from Bangladesh and brought to India on the basis of fake documents for the surgeries, officials said.

Amit Goel, DCP Crime Branch, said, "Seven people have been arrested in connection with an international organ transplant racket. The mastermind of this racket was a Bangladeshi. Both, the donor and receiver were from Bangladesh. We have arrested a person named Russell, who used to arrange patients and donors, and the lady doctor involved in the transplant has also been arrested."

The gang charged between Rs 25-30 lakhs per transplant. According to Delhi police, this organ transplant racket has been active since 2019.

The female doctor, currently a kidney transplant surgeon at a prominent hospital in southeast Delhi, allegedly conducted surgeries on Bangladeshi nationals between 2021 and 2023. She allegedly conducted the surgeries in a Noida-based private hospital where she was a visiting consultant.

Additionally, her assistant and four others, including three Bangladeshi nationals, were arrested. The arrests occurred over the past two weeks.
