Pakistan pumping drugs in J&K to finance terrorism: DGP
Majority of the drugs being pumped into Jammu and Kashmir came from Pakistan to finance terror activities, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said.

Majority of drugs being pumped into Jammu and Kashmir came from Pakistan to finance terror activities, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said on Wednesday. Dilbag Singh asserted that police were working to block supply chain to rid region of menace. He said drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir h increased manifold compared to previous years. This was evident from seizure of a huge quantity of narcotic substances and arrest of drug peddlers.

"It is a big conspiracy of Pakistan as a majority of drugs is coming from re...investigation into some cases indicates that money generated from drugs smuggling is being utilised to finance militancy," DGP told reporters on sidelines of a function at drug de-diction centre in police lines.

Dilbag Singh, who released a pamphlet to educate youngsters against use of drugs, said police were working tirelessly to wipe out growing threat. "So far, 340 people (drug peddlers) have been arrested against a total of 350 last year, while (drug) licences of eight shops were cancelled and 12 more persons were detained under Public Safety Act," he said, ding that police h also seized a huge quantity of narcotics this year.

" police is working to block supply chain, wher it comes from Kashmir or border districts of Rajouri and Poonch and elsewhere. re are some cases where drugs were supplied from Kashmir and investigating team was successful in identifying route and supposed destination, wher in Punjab or Delhi, leing to a huge recovery of narcotics," officer said.

Seeking people's cooperation to wipe out threat from society, he said drug menace h increased manifold compared to previous years. "We have opened this centre in 2013 and over years, it has expanded, generating faith and trust of people, especially those dicted to drugs," DGP said. He ded that number of people coming to centre was increasing with every passing day. "We have identified a piece of land here to construct a bigger centre. We have alrey established a big centre in downtown Srinagar at a cost of Rs 8 crore. This menace is t only prevalent here, but in Kashmir as well," Singh said. Once proposal was approved, Jammu would get a state-of--art drug de-diction centre, which would be like a good hospital, he ded. Hailing efforts of staff of drug de-diction centre at police lines, Singh said ir counselling and treatment helped many youngsters to give up narcotics.
"Some of m have joined hands and are helping or young dicts to overcome drugs. y are playing a very good role," he said.

DGP urges parents to cooperate
state police chief requested parents to give equate time to ir children to ensure that y did t fall into b company. "Listen to and understand your children, who need your guidance and time, inste of remaining busy with your mobile phones and chatting. You need to keep a close watch on activities of your children before it takes shape of a disease," he said. Singh also vised youngsters to stay away from drugs and said, "Using drugs is justification or solution to overcome frustration. It should t be done as success and failure are part of life."
